Ugo Boggi, MD, FEBS, is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Pisa (Italy) and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh (USA). Dr. Boggi is a renowned gastrointestinal and transplant surgeon with extensive expertise in the surgical treatment of hepato-biliary and pancreatic cancers, as well as in pancreas and renal transplantation. He is a pioneer in robotic surgery, having performed the world's first robotic pancreas transplant, the first robotic distal selective spleno-renal shunt for severe portal hypertension, and the first European robotic renal transplantation. Dr. Boggi has one of the world's largest experiences in robotic pancreatic surgery, including robotic pancreatoduodenectomy and extended pancreatectomies with resection of peripancreatic vessels, with over 2,200 pancreatic resections to his credit. He also recently crossed the milestone of over 1,000 vascular resections performed in pancreatectomy procedures. Dr. Boggi has published over 490 peer-reviewed articles, more than 70 book chapters, and two books. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Updates in Surgery and the founding Editor of the European Journal of Transplantation. He is a past president of the Italian Society for Organ and Tissue Transplantation and currently serves as the President of the Italian Chapter of the IHPBA. He organized the first world consensus conference on pancreas transplantation (Pisa, Italy, October 17-19, 2019) and the REDISCOVER international consensus meeting on perioperative care of patients with borderline resectable and locally advanced pancreatic cancer (Pisa, Italy, September 17-18, 2023). Dr. Boggi is the founding chairman of the Italian Registry for Minimally Invasive Pancreatic Surgery (IGOMIPS), a founding member of the European Consortium on Minimally Invasive Pancreatic Surgery (E-MIPS), and a founding member of the International Consortium on Minimally Invasive Pancreatic Surgery (I-MIPS).
