He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1987 in Chieti and in 1990 he moved to Germany at the University of Ulm where he worked until 1994. After an Italian period between 1994 and 2001 in which he worked in Chieti and Bolzano, in 2002 he returned to Germany where he worked as attending surgeon and associate professor of Surgery at the Department of General and Transplantation Surgery of the University of Heidelberg. In 2005 he was appointed as Head of the Department of General Surgery of the IRCCS Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza of San Giovanni Rotondo (Italy). In 2013, until 2019, he assumed the role of Head of General Surgery at the SS Annunziata Hospital of Chieti and G.Bernabeo Hospital of Ortona, and Teacher at the School of Specialization in General Surgery of the D'Annunzio University of Chieti. Since 2019 Prof. Pierluigi di Sebastiano is Full Professor of Surgery at the Department of Innovative Technology in Medicine & Dentistry at the G. D'Annunzio University of Chieti- Pescara and Head of the Department of Surgery at the Pierangeli Clinic in Pescara. "Privat Dozent" of Surgery in Germany since 1999, he fervently dedicates himself to scientific research and the improvement of his surgical technique in the field of pancreatic diseases. Prof. di Sebastiano is a surgical expert for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and his surgical focus is on hepatobiliary, colorectal, and pancreatic surgery. As an academic surgeon, he specializes in translational medicine, oncological surgery and the development of new surgical techniques. He is co-author of more than 200 scientific publications focused on gastrointestinal cancers, pancreatic diseases and clinical surgical issues.
