Professor Markus. K. Diener was born in Mannheim in 1976. He ist the current chairman of the Department for General-, Visceral- and Thoracic Surgery, Hospital Nuremberg, Paracelsus Medical  University. He is an expert in HPB and Upper GI Surgery. From 2003 – 2020 he was trained at the Department of General-, Visceral-  and Transplantion Surgery, University of Heidelberg, Chairman Professor  Markus. W. Büchler. From 2020 – 2023 he was the deputy medical Director at the Department of General - and Visceral Surgery at the University of Freiburg, Chaiman Professor Stefan Fichtner-Feigl. In September 2023 he took his current position in Nuremberg. Markus Diener is a clinical researcher. As former Director of the Study Centre of the German Surgical Society (SDGC) he initiated, conducted and authored multiple high-ranked multicenter randomized trial and meta-analyses  with a special focus on surgical techniques in pancreatic surgery. He is a member of the German Excellence Academy of the German Society of Visceral Surgery.
