I was born on April 28, 1959, in Vöcklabruck, Austria. Currently, I hold the esteemed positions of Head of the Department of Internal Medicine as well as Medical Director at the Hospital of St. John of God in Salzburg [in German: A.ö. Krankenhaus der Barmherzigen Brüder Salzburg]. Additionally, I am the head of the scientific, preventive institute SIPCAN focusing on research in children and adults, particularly in the fields of diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia, and metabolic syndrome, emphasizing prevention. My journey in the medical field has been marked by numerous achievements and contributions. Over the years, I have spearheaded various initiatives, including the establishment of a large metabolic unit including diabetes, obesity and dyslipidemia and the establishment of an Internal Emergency Unit as well as the development of oncological patient care services at our hospital and an oncologic outpatient unit. In addition to my clinical roles, I have been actively involved in academia and professional organizations, holding teaching positions and serving in leadership roles in various medical societies, such as president of the Austrian Obesity Association, President of the Austrian Lipid Forum, Board member of the Astrian Cardiology Association and the Austrian Diabetes Association as well as Secretary of the Austrian Diabetes Association. My dedication to advancing preventive medicine and cardiovascular health has been recognized through numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art. As a committed advocate for public health, I have an ongoing role in governmental committees and contributed to health policy development. My passion for research and education is reflected in my involvement in editorial boards, mentorship of doctoral candidates, and regular contributions to scientific publications.
